Medical Services to Celebrate 'STEP-tember'
CHATTANOOGA, TN (August 2010) In an effort to encourage employees and Americans as a whole, to live healthier lives and reduce unnecessary medical costs due to physical inactivity North American Credit Services (NACS) will launch an employee health walking lunch campaign on Wednesday "STEP-tember" 1 st with a company-wide 'Lunch Walk' at its Chattanooga, TN based corporate head-quarters.
NACS employees have been provided the opportunity to 'Take the Pledge' in making strides towards better health including: a recent corporate membership partnership with the YMCA and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, who are providing walking pedometer's to help employees track their steps to success."Our company feels passionately about the connection between one's daily decisions and the direct costs of healthcare," states Dallas S. Bunton, Sr. CEO and Chairman of NACS and Medical Services of Chattanooga. "Employee wellness partnerships, such as our 'STEP-tember' kick-off create an opportunity in workplaces to engage in increased physical activity while at work and after-hours in improving one's personal health and well-being."
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration (HRSA) estimates the cost to treat illness and chronic disease caused by inactive lifestyles is nearly $1,000 annually for every American family. The U.S. Surgeon General reports that two out of three Americans are not getting enough daily physical activity to maintain a basic level of fitness. Simply adding 30 minutes of moderate physical activity, such as a brisk walk, at least five times a week can help people lose weight, lower their cholesterol and strengthen their hearts.
Employees will begin the 'Lunch Walk' at 11:30 a.m. on a new 'STEP to Better Health' walking path on campus, followed by a healthy snack and bottled water to keep refreshed and hydrated as they continue onto the rest of their work-day. Representatives from the YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Erlanger and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department will also be in attendance providing employee health screenings and resource information.
